http://http://www.floatingislandinternational.com Nature of Business: Headwaters Floating Islands (HFI) is a licensed division of Floating Island International (FII) from Shepherd, Montana. HFI will manufacture, market, and sell Floating Island BioHavens which are Floating Treatment Wetlands. I would like to invite you to look at the FII website www.floatingislandinternational.com . The FII web site will give you a solid basis about the Floating Islands. Our web site will be up and running soon, and give you an overview of our company and what we are doing in the area of “floating treatment wetlands” for lakes, ponds, treatment ponds, storm water ponds and treatment remedies in just about any waterways. Our product has and is undergoing rigorous engineering trials/ research/pilot projects and we are gathering and writing scientific, evidence based articles that show the efficacy of our Floating Island BioHavens product. We have an outstanding article from our colleagues in New Zealand that collaborates how Floating Island BioHavens help significantly reduce water pollution and heavy metals by biomimicry of natures processes. We have evidence based articles that were published after research done at the FII research ponds supported by Montana Research Grants dealing with water quality. The articles, photos and many other details regarding FII are available on the FII web site.
Mission: Provide a sustainable, water treatment system that biomimics natural floating wetlands. We have brought to market a natural water stewardship tool, the BioHaven floating island, which uses little energy to produce and virtually none in running costs. Using the same microbial processes that underpin waste water treatment plants, BioHavens effectively remove common nutrients such as ammonia, nitrates and phosphates at one-tenth the installation cost of fully engineered mechanical systems, and with virtually zero power consumption. We have third-party efficacy data from Government and University-backed studies to support our nutrient removal claims.
Relation to Your Community We are a proactive group of eclectic individuals with diverse education and skills that have come together to educate, promote, and provide quality floating island treatment wetlands that will help polish water in almost any water environment, and yet is approximately 90% cheaper than conventional water treatment methods, uses almost no real energy, is self sustaining, beautiful, and serves as a beautiful habitat for fish, birds, insects, and select animal populations who use the island as a breeding or brooding platform. The fish "graze" on the microbes that inhabit the Islands plant life root system. We will present, teach or speak at almost any community event where there is a genuine interest in water quality.
What Sustainability Goals Does Your Company Embrace? This world has less than 5% potable water, in the WHOLE world. That is significant. We must do something and do it now. Floating Treatment Wetlands in the form of Floating Island BioHavens are part of an answer. The world needs this product now! It is cost effective, made of recycled plastic, uses limited energy to make, is non-toxic, low maintainability and the islands can be added on to if the water polishing demand increases. Simply add another island. Sustainability is there because it is effective technology that is reproducible, scientific evidence based, and can be used in any country including the most impoverished third world nation.
