Friends:
If you like the idea behind the message below, please forward to our three Montana representatives e-mails today. They need to hear from as many of their constituents as possible. Together we can rebuild America 5% at a time. Buying local globally makes sense.
Anders Lewendal
The New York Times, the Today Show, NPR and Diane Sawyer have all clamored to report an idea to fix unemployment that started right here in Bozeman, Montana. As your constituents, we want you to get on board and take this idea to the halls of Washington.
The All-American Home is the first-ever fully-documented house built predominately from products made in the USA. The builder, Anders Lewendal, says it is proof that everything needed to build a home is still manufactured here in the USA, and he's asking every builder across the country to shift just 5 percent of their building costs from foreign-made products to those made in America.
It's not Economic protectionism and it's not isolationism - it's just one way to directly create 175,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs, according to NAHB data. But say the idea went beyond builders.
If every business and household in the US chose to make that shift, America's jobless rate would fall well below 5 percent.
Socially, it would decrease US dependence on unregulated, third-world labor. Environmentally, it would significantly decrease the amount of fuel burned in old power plants and international shipping. This is the "Buy Local" movement on a global scale.
Here's our challenge: Go to
http://www.theallamericanhome.com and register your support and talk about this common-sense solution to as many people as you can.
Challenge every member of the senate and congress to also register and to get this idea out to all of their constituents.
We need your help. Together, we can rebuild America, 5% at a time.
Thank you.
Is it possible to build 100% American-Made?
The All American Home
We at Anders Lewendal Construction think so, and we've teamed up with Sustainable Building Solutions to prove it. If successful, this will be the first home ever documented using only American made products.
We will document that every product in the home was sourced and/or manufactured predominately in America. Designed to achieve a HERS rating of about 40 without generating power, the home will use about 60 percent less energy than average new homes of its size. And on top of all that, we're building it for about the same cost as any other home of its quality and size.
It sounds pretty cool, but why would we go to all the trouble?Quite simply, we believe this is the solution to the Great Recession. We want to prove that every building material can still be purchased from companies who manufacture right here in the U.S. We plan to use that proof to inspire a movement that sees every builder across the nation commit to shifting just 5% of their construction costs from foreign products to those made in America.
But why stop there? Why couldn't every other company and family within our borders commit to reallocating 5% of their spending?

If every U.S. business owner and family made just a 5% shift in their spending, data shows that, conservatively, unemployment would dive below 5%, the level leading economists consider healthy for a growing economy.
This is the power of 5%, and it starts with proof. It starts with the All-American Home.

Custom J BoltsJ-Bolts are threaded rods embedded in the concrete foundation, used to anchor the framing. We were a little late ordering our standard American-Made J-Bolts, so when it was time to pour concrete, we did even better. That's right, these puppies were made right here in Bozeman, MT! Sandy, owner of SJ Prototypes, was able to fabricate them for us and had them onsite in time to pour the foundation.
Of Course It's Green! So this house is All American, but is it Green too? Of Course it's Green!! We have worked with Corbond and JM to create an All American made insulation that attaches to the outside of the home in place of the shearwall. Outsulation will dramatically reduce thermal short, or bridging, and will go a long way to reducing or eliminating the dew point in the wall system, which means less potential for mold issues. More on this later.
